Past Exhibitions
On display at the Enterprise Center Gallery beginning Friday November 13th is Sculpture, Art Benches and Rings by local sculptor and Louisiana Tech School of Art Woodshop Technician, Todd Cloe. Todd Cloe has been an award-winning sculptor since the mid-1980s. He studied Fine Art at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater Oklahoma and earned his MFA from Louisiana Tech University. He is the Woodshop Technician for the Louisiana Tech Art Department. Cloe’s artwork is heavily influenced by his interest in ancient artifacts. Combined with his personal experiences and experimentation, he delivers a fresh perspective on the significance of tools, their use, contributions and aesthetic appeal. His interest in functional pieces began when his future wife accepted his proposal of marriage. When he learned that she was allergic to most metals and asked,“ What will we do for our wedding rings?” his artistic sensibilities were delighted when she simply responded, “Carve us a set”. Since then, interest in his one-of-a-kind rings continues to grow and prompted him to begin his own studio. Todd currently provides wooden art, rings, accessories and wooden benches for specialty venues and individual orders. He is also a widely exhibiting sculptor, most notably winning Best Sculpture in the 32nd Annual Cherokee Trail of Tears Art Exhibition. The exhibition will be on display from November 13th – January 7th. The opening reception will be held on Friday November 13 at from 6-8pm. The gallery is free and open to the public from 8 am – 5 pm Monday-Friday
On view from October 16th -November 8th, Faces, Figures and the Familiar, paintings by Jerry Berg.
Faces, Figures and the Familiar, a solo exhibition of classical realist paintings, is now on display at the Enterprise Art Gallery. Featuring new work by Louisiana Tech professor Jerry L. Berg, II, the show runs from October 16th - November 8th. Please join us for the opening reception on October 16th from 6-8 pm. In Faces, Figures and the Familar, Berg has been inspired by the great master paintings including the works of Caravaggio, Ingres and Bouguereau. He has tried to achieve the same rich depth of the skin tones, the mastery of the use of color and the dynamic composition of the scenes in his own classical realist paintings. Part of this exhibition focuses on portraits, including a portrait of Louisiana Tech President, Dr. Daniel Reneau along with a self-portrait and several others. The figures include nudes and the beginning of a new series called "The Betrayers” focusing on the biblical figures, Judas and Delilah. These character studies are meant to examine the decisions these betrayers made and the impact of those decisions. The second body of work is a series of plein air (painting outside) paintings based on the familiar scenes of his childhood growing up in Kansas. The series honors the familiar skylines with grain elevators, wheat fields and wonderful cloud forms.
The first show of our 2009/10 season will be Exploded Views which features new work from professors Joey Slaughter and Jay Gould. Exploded Views is an exhibition that, like the diagrams that appear in instruction manuals, presents viewers with an additional insight and appreciation of reality that is complex, beautiful and unexpected. Using a wide variety of artistic mediums, Slaughter and Gould explore the rich world of information that surrounds us and extract artwork that builds stories, asks questions, and beautifully reinterprets data one might typically overlook. Joey Slaughter received his BFA from Memphis College of Art in 1997 and his received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2000. Upon graduating Cranbrook Slaughter received the prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. He is currently an assistant professor of art at Louisiana Tech University. Joey Slaughter’s interests are centered on the logical processes underlying the movement and transformation of information. He combines the hands-on acts of painting and sculpture with digital media. Jay Gould is a Louisiana-based artist and assistant professor of photography at Louisiana Tech University. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gould received his B.F.A. in photography from the University of Wisconsin and his M.F.A. from the Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia. His work, which integrates scientific topics into photographic projects, has won numerous national awards and is widely exhibited around the country.
